Obsidian necklace with evil eye | volcanic rock, mineral necklace, raw black stone statement necklace

Sorry, this item has sold.

Raw black stone (identified as Obsidian) with red (mahogany) inclusions. This is not the shiny smooth obsidian you often see, but much more granular. The soldered metal cap has a stitched motif, part of my beautifully broken series. Dangling alongside is a one-sided sand cast lead free evil eye amulet.

This is a statement piece. The raw, somewhat arrow shaped stone, is not flat backed and is wider on one side. The setting is purposefully rustic and raw.

Strung from chunky stainless steel chain. Closing with a hand made black iron wire hook at the front.

Length: 20 inches (51 cm) end to end.
The focal is around 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) high
Necklace weight: Around 250 grams

Sealed with a natural wax polish. Clean with a soft damp cloth and an occasional coat of wax or oil polish will maintain the patina.

Obsidian is the igneous rock which forms when molten rock material cools so rapidly that atoms are unable to arrange themselves into a crystalline structure. Because of the way it fractures, the first use of obsidian by people was probably as a cutting tool. Once humans had learned to break obsidian purposefully it was used to make knives, arrowheads, and other weapons and tools; examples of these are found dating back to the stone age.

What's your aesthetic and your pricing philsophy?

My work is purposefully raw. I use natural stones, crystals and salvaged materials, as these hold more meaning than shiny new things. My aesthetic celebrates the signposts; stitches, tool marks, natural texture and patina - these tell the story of a pieces' journey with me. I love that one of my customers described my work as 'beautifully broken' because there is great beauty in what some consider to be imperfection.

Pricing is one of the hardest things for an artist. I try to keep my prices accessible, whilst reflecting the time and materials that have gone into creating. When you purchase one of my pieces you are getting something that is unique and which has taken many hours to create.

    Custom and personalized orders

My process is very organic and personal so, the short answer is no, I don't generally take custom orders. However, please feel free to reach out to me if you have something in mind. I've worked with several of my regular customers to create a piece that uses a material or object that holds a special meaning for them.

Can I reserve an item? Do you offer lay-away?

I am happy to reserve items for up to seven days for returning customers (ie. people who have purchased from me before), but please note that by reserving an item you are committing to purchase that item.

I can also set up layaway (payment via instalments) for new customers. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this option.

I am German buyer - what are my obligations under the Packaging Act (VerpackG)?

In accordance with the Packaging Act (VerpackG), I have registered in the LUCID packaging register. Customers resident in Germany must either a) return any packaging that I have put into circulation at their own cost OR b) properly dispose of any packaging in accordance with the applicable regulations.

I just got your order! It’s beautiful the necklace is a wee bit heavy but with the length it works OK. I love the way it looks on me. And the earrings are swell too.
